Are you an Licensed Therapist looking for a group practice where you can grow as a clinician, and have a balance between support and autonomy?

Do you want supervision that strengthens your clinical skills in a supportive community of thoughtful peers?

Do you appreciate the freedom to set your own schedule and focus on clients you work best with?

Are you interested in longer-term therapy work, and practicing from a psychodynamic lens (including compatible frameworks, such as IFS, AEDP)?

Join us!

First, a little about what we do: Emerge is a private group practice in Center City Philadelphia specializing in insight-oriented approaches to individual therapy with adults 18 and older (both in person and virtual).

Here at Emerge, we practice psychodynamic or “insight oriented” psychotherapy. This approach fosters growth and healing through helping clients uncover things outside their awareness—thoughts, feelings, fears, inner conflicts—that are contributing to their symptoms. The therapy relationship also becomes a way for the patient to better understand unhelpful ways they tend to see themselves and relate to others, and where those beliefs came from (key relationships and experiences in their life).

Patients who do well with a psychodynamic approach tend to be curious to know themselves; reflect about their thoughts and feelings; and are looking to "go deeper". Often we hear from patients whose prior therapy felt superficial or like a “band aid”. This is where psychodynamic therapy can help.

Psychodynamic therapy is rich, vibrant and evolving. Here at Emerge, it doesn’t mean an inaccessible therapist nodding silently; there is warmth, humor, and authenticity.

While we may incorporate other tools as needed (e.g. grounding or breathing exercises) we overall do not offer behavioral therapies such as CBT. You can read about core features of psychodynamic therapy, and evidence for its efficacy, here. Different treatment approaches are a bit like different types of fitness workouts. Yoga, running and Crossfit each offer their own benefits but are not interchangeable, and each will appeal to different people based on their needs, goals and resources (including how much of a change you’re looking for, how intensely you want to work at it, and so on.) Emerge specializes in offering long term, relationship-based work for individuals seeking to make deep and lasting change to stuck patterns, through understanding themselves and changing their interpersonal dynamics.

We welcome applicants who are trained in (or interested in) modalities that prioritize the therapy relationship, working with affect, attachment, and take into account transference/countertransference, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), relational psychotherapy, AEDP, or Emotionally Focused Therapy.

You may be the right fit if:

  • you have prior counseling experience (post-grad preferred; significant internship experience will be considered)

  • you are self aware, insightful, and demonstrate emotional maturity

  • you are committed to professional growth and learning—you don’t view CEs as a chore

  • you actively participate in clinical supervision, and are able to reflect on use of self and countertransference

  • you want to work in a collaborative, collegial setting and value community

  • you don’t think of clients in terms of symptoms, diagnoses, or problems to be solved, but rather in terms of early life relationships, patterns, and dynamics to be understood and healed

  • you are licensed in PA (LSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PhD). Pre-licensed applicants will not be considered.

To be considered, please email bridgett@emergephila.com your resume, with a cover letter OR an email describing your therapy orientation and areas of interest (niche, focus areas, preferred populations, etc) as well as desired schedule/number of hours (part time vs. full time)
