Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fees and insurance plans accepted vary by clinician. Click the link for each provider to find out more, or email us to find out who would be best for you.

We also provide detailed receipts (called "superbills") for patients with out of network benefits, which they can submit to their insurance for reimbursement. Many “PPO” plans allow out of network services. Be sure to verify whether you have out of network benefits, as these are not included in all plans.

  • Emerge is a contracted provider able to directly bill the state of Pennsylvania for therapy services provided to patients who have filed a claim with VCAP. (You do not need to pay up front for therapy covered by VCAP). Victims of sexual abuse/assault that occurred in Pennsylvania can receive $5-10k towards the cost of therapy, and no police report is required. Victims of other types of crimes can also file a claim, with a police report.

You can find out more about filing a claim at: https://portal.pccd.pa.gov/DAVE

  • Our clinicians have a limited number of sliding scale slots available, for patients with financial need.

If the cost of therapy is a barrier for you, consider working with a therapist in training through our low fee clinical intern program.

  • Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is so important to the therapy process!

All our clinicians offer a free phone consultation to 1) assess whether your goals are something we can help you with and 2) help you decide if you feel comfortable working with us.

Questions you may want to ask yourself are: 1) do I feel heard? 2) do they check in with me to see if they're understanding me? 3) do I feel safe to ask questions or give feedback?

At Emerge, we are passionate about helping folks connect to high quality therapy--even if one of our providers isn't the right match. What matters is finding the right therapist for you.

  • At Emerge, we work from a psychodynamic or "insight oriented" approach. Part of being human is that we have mixed emotions, and conflicts within ourselves that are not easy to understand. Gaining insight and clarity can help you get unstuck, when figuring it out on your own isn’t enough.

Patients who do well with a psychodynamic approach tend to be curious to know themselves; reflect about their thoughts and feelings; and are looking to "go deeper". Often we hear from patients whose prior therapy felt superficial or like a “band aid”. This is where psychodynamic therapy can help.

There are many types of therapy you can choose from, and no treatment is one size fits all. Through a phone consultation, we can help you decide whether this way of working may be a good fit for you and your goals. You might think of different treatment approaches like different types of fitness workouts: yoga, running and Crossfit each offer their own benefits but are not interchangeable, and each will appeal to different people based on their needs, goals and resources (including how much of a change you’re looking for, how intensely you want to work at it, and so on.)

  • We offer both virtual (telehealth) and in-person sessions. Availability varies by clinician; ask your specific provider for more details

  • Emerge uses a HIPAA-compliant video platform for secure virtual therapy appointments.

  • Emerge is conveniently located in Center City Philadelphia at the corner of 16th & Walnut Streets, in the Medical Arts Building. Our office is wheelchair accessible and near multiple Septa lines.
